Liposuction can be defined in the simplest terms as – a process that breaks up and sucks fats from various possible parts of human body. A hollow instrument is inserted under the skin and fat is pulled out using a very powerful pressure vacuum.
Liposuction is done is smaller sections of the body and one phase at a time. Often it is considered to be a treatment for obesity or long-term weight loss, however liposuction along cannot provide the relevant results that one would hope for. A strict diet along with a good workout routine helps maintain the body’s structure. Liposuction’s results are never dramatic, they are rather subtle. Liposuction is usually done in areas of abdomen, back, buttocks and chest.

What exactly happens before and during the operation?
Once the patient has been prepared for the operation – the patient is given an anaesthesia so as to put them to sleep before the procedure starts and they remain under the anaesthetic for the next one to four hours. Before doing this, the surgeon marks out lines on the patient’s body indicating to the patient where the surgery will be carried out and what results can be expected out of it.
What happens after the operation?
Once the operation is done, the patient is ready to go – depending on the type of anaesthesia given to the patient. It is strongly advised to not drive for a period of 24 hrs. Sometimes patients might also be supported by support bandages, these bandages help reduce inflammation and further bruising. There could also be significant bruising on the areas post the process – usually the bruising takes a few days to completely heel itself. Once the inflammation has gone down completely, doctors and the patient will be able to truly appreciate the results of a successful liposuction.
